TALKING HEADS 20 YEARS OLD!!

This is the 20th anniversary for our beloved local magazine Talking Heads. This is an amazing achievement.

Thank you, Trish, for all your hard work and keeping Talking Heads relevant and continually improving. Some of us celebrated with Trish on Saturday afternoon and reminisced on the past 20 years and are very excited for its future. We love the fabulous covers each month and great recipes. Please spend your money locally with the businesses that advertise and support Talking Heads so strongly.

HERE IS YOUR LINK TO THE 20th Anniversary MAY TALKING HEADS – our local and much-loved magazine.

Printed copies are available at the Barwon Heads Post Office, Frith, Apco, Starfish and the Wine store in Barwon Heads. If you want a copy delivered in May email Talking Heads.

BELLARINE PENINSULA’S DISTINCTIVE AREA AND LANDSCAPE PROJECT – HEARINGS CONTINUE THROUGH TO JUNE

Thank you to our members who have donated to support us at the panel. This has enabled us to cross examine the experts who are trying very hard to devalue our green breaks and extend our boundary.
It has been fascinating so far, especially the dumbing down by expert witnesses of the beautiful features that we value so much as part of our Bellarine landscape. They see no problems with drainage, groundwater, flooding, vegetation biodiversity & conservation. They have totally ignored the strong indigenous connections and risks of climate change. No one has mentioned recent advice from the Insurance Council regrading the uninsurability of some of the new developments in Australia, especially those built on floodplains. But we are only in week 2.

The developers represented are obviously not looking at the overall benefit to the Bellarine, but narrow self-interest promoting sectional interests with some very shallow expert support.

Logically if the SAC approved all the development cases/ every town would have new pressures on boundaries. This is unacceptable planning.
We are pleased with the quality of support from the Minister and the City of Greater Geelong. Those of us who are following it are learning something new every day, so we recommend it as good background listening on a cold day.
The time frame has been extended until 10 June 2022 (from the initial 2 weeks that was promoted).

You can watch the proceedings via this Zoom Hearing Link.

We will publish the timetable on our BHA website (it is constantly changing, and we heard today that a significant expert for the Minister has COVID).

Sign our petition – to protect the boundary, the towns character and surrounding environment.

We now have over 1000 signatures. THANK YOU
PLEASE ADD YOUR SIGNATURE and pass link on to friends and neighbours.

MEET THE CANDIDATES’ FORUMS

The BHA combined with the Ocean Grove Community Association and Breamlea Association to co-host a Community Forum for the Federal Candidates for the seat of Corangamite. It was an interesting night, with a broad range of questions. We thank the 4 candidates that attended on the night. There were more young people in attendance which was fantastic and some heated conversation which was difficult for the moderator to control.

For those of you who couldn’t attend and are interested this there is another forum hosted by the Point Lonsdale Community Association.
Friday 6th at Point Lonsdale Primary School, Bowen Rd Point Lonsdale – 7.30pm
There is no need to register for this event.
