12 Mar MARCH NEWSLETTER

Hi there, the countdown to Easter has started.
Talking Heads
The Autumn Talking Heads is live, click here to read it.
Well done Trish on another great cover. We are lucky to have this outstanding publication in our village supporting our community groups and local businesses. We are surprised that our local bank – the Bendigo Bank is apparently no longer participating and advertising in Talking Heads. We will really miss it if local businesses stop supporting Talking Heads and we no longer have it. Community Groups are given free space – by advertising local businesses are also supporting our local groups and we will support our local businesses.
Upcoming BHA Meetings
NEXT BHA MEETING – SUNDAY MARCH 23RD AT 10AM
As you know we have been in contact with the CEO of CoGG and have given her an open invitation to come to town and talk to us about CoGG and answer our questions. She has given us the date of
SUNDAY 23RD MARCH AT 10:30AM AT THE BARWON HEADS BOWLING CLUB.
PLEASE COME AND BRING YOUR NEIGHBOURS.
Do you have any questions (please send to us as soon as possible).
We will send our questions to Ali at least 4 days before the meeting.
What is happening in town
EASTER SATURDAY 19TH APRIL ANNUAL DUCK RACE – we are assisting in the sale of tickets and on the river . RACES WILL COMMENCE AT APPROX 11:00AM WITH MAIN RACE AT ABOUT 11:30.
Clean Up Australia Day (always the first Sunday in March) – A huge thank you to the Friends of the Bluff and their 25 volunteers who filled an impressive 21 bags with 3620* bits of litter made up of 1500+ pieces of plastic, 625 cigarette butts, 200 wipes/tissues, 130 x bottles, 150 x aluminium cans PLUS many other miscellaneous items: travel mug, traffic bollard, balls, hats, undies, vapes, take away coffee cup lids and many other unmentionables🤭 The Barwon Heads Scouts (whose members also participated this morning) have received 3 x bags of 10 cent recyclables to cash in 🙂
However how appalling that there is so much litter on our beautiful beaches. We encourage you all to take your rubbish home, put it in bins and pick up if you see rubbish.
The CWA had a very successful lunch for International Womens Day, collaborating with Heads and Tales.
The Bowling Club hosted an inspiring Mental Health Bowls Forum.

Barw0n Water Plans to Build a Recycling Facility at Black Rock
We have not heard anything about this project and continue to be concerned about its impact on Barwon Heads and our coastal surrounds. How does this project align with the Coastal and Marine Act and the Bellarine Distinctive Area and Landscape Statement of Planning Policy?
Barwon Heads Road Stage 2 of the Upgrade
Early works are set to begin on the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade – Stage 2 project to prepare for major construction later this year.
From mid-January, work will be undertaken between Reserve Road in Charlemont and Lake Road in Armstrong Creek to:
conduct surveying and further site investigations along and near Barwon Heads Road
install fencing along project boundaries
relocate some services, such as electricity
remove vegetation where utilities are to be relocated and new fencing installed.
The work will take place between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and at times, between 8am and 3.30pm on Saturdays.
During this work, there may be minor traffic delays. To ensure the safety of workers and the community, there may be lower speed limits and closed lanes.
For more information visit the Barwon Heads Road Upgrade webpage, or contact us via phone on 1800 105 105 or email contact@bigbuild.vic.gov.au.
